QR Codes to aid Contact Sharing

Adding contacts on your phone has become as simple as the scan you just performed! One way to combat QR code’s gimmicky reputation was to focus on creating value for users. An example of the value added, in a user-centric way, by QR codes is their innate ability to embed data. This ability was realized through a more efficient way of sharing contacts within a mobile phone. Not only, did this save users the trouble of manually entering in information,  Additionally, but this form of contact sharing also had another benefit which is the ability to attach information such as picture, bio, etc so that one would not have to go through the trouble of remembering.

Another interesting thing that emerged about QR codes in this use case, was the implications of the scanning platform itself. In China, this contact sharing occurred in an app, WeChat, that is so central to life in China, that it was almost as though the scanning feature was embedded within a phone software itself. This was happening at the same time that only smaller, more niche platforms in the US, such as Snapchat, were doing the same thing.
