QR Codes to Replace Barcodes


When QR codes were first created in 1994, their primary use was to help Japanese automakers to track car parts in their warehouses.

In this case, The QR code acted as a natural extension of the conventional barcode, which has been around since the mid-1970s.

Traditional barcodes however only had a capacity of 20 alphanumeric characters. Therefore, especially in countries with character-based languages, the need to create smarter barcodes than what already existed.

That is when QR Codes were born.
